What Does Unflavored Protein Powder Taste Like?

Unflavored protein powder varies from brand to brand, because all different manufacturers have different ways of compiling their products. Some products will taste boring and bland, while others will have no taste at all.

Most people will always drink protein powder with milk anyway for an extra protein hit, especially if you are trying to lose weight or gain muscle. However what does it taste like if you just drink it with plain water?

There are a mix of answers, just because everybody likes the taste of different products and has different tastes.

The general opinion is that unflavored protein powder tastes creamy, milky, cheesy or a little bit like a combination of all three.

That makes sense because protein powder is created from milk and cheese. Although it says it is unflavored, it really just means there is no added flavor. The taste of unflavored protein powder is something that some people will enjoy and some people will not.

If you like cheese, milk and other dairy products, chances are good that you will enjoy the taste of unflavored protein powder even if it is just in a glass of water.

If you don’t like the taste of it, you can easily add your own flavor – which is what most people do anyway when they combine it with milk, cooking, hot drinks or smoothies. It is very rare for somebody to just drink protein powder in water – even fully flavored protein powder.

Some of the most common ways to make the powder taste better are to:

  • Add it to your breakfast as a sprinkling on your oats, with your eggs, blended with orange juice or cooked into bread that you make.
